Bereavement House Clearance
Clearing a house after losing someone close to you is hard, and there's no good time to do it. Clear Conscience takes a quiet, respectful approach, working at whatever pace feels right for the family.
There's no rush on our part, and nothing is thrown away or passed on without the family's say-so. We simply want to make this part of things a little easier to get through.
What's included
- A gentle, unhurried approach to clearing a loved one's home
- Setting aside photographs, letters and keepsakes before anything else is touched
- Flexible timing, including coming back another day if it gets too much
- Key-holding so the family doesn't have to be present for the clearance itself
- Liaising with family members, executors or solicitors as needed
- Donating suitable items to charity rather than simply disposing of them
How it works
A quiet conversation
We talk through what's needed, with no pressure to decide anything straight away.
Setting things aside
Before any clearing starts, we set aside anything sentimental for the family to look through in their own time.
Clearing at your pace
We can clear everything in one visit or spread it out, whatever suits you.
Handing back a clean, empty house
Once everything's done, the property is left tidy and ready for whatever comes next.
Where your things go
We're fully insured and a registered waste carrier, licence CBDU565714. Around 98% of what we clear from a home is kept out of landfill, through donation, recycling or being passed on to someone who needs it.
If the family would like it, we can make sure items go to Phyllis Tuckwell, the British Heart Foundation or Sue Ryder in their loved one's memory.
Questions people ask
Do we have to clear everything at once?
No, not at all. We can spread the clearance over more than one visit if that feels better.
What happens to photographs and personal letters?
These are always set aside first, before any general clearing begins, so the family can go through them in their own time.
Can you hold the keys so we don't need to be there?
Yes, plenty of families prefer this, and we're happy to carry out the clearance without anyone present.
Is it alright if we're not sure yet what we want to keep?
Yes, there's no pressure to decide everything in advance. We work with you, not against a deadline.
Can other family members be involved in the process?
Yes, we're happy to speak with everyone involved and work around visits from family members who want to be there for part of it.
